A Diatonic Wooden C-Flute with Choroi Fingering
The Choroi Octa Diatonic C-Flute with Choroi Fingering is a handcrafted maple flute for children about age 8 and up, teens, and adults. Designed with Choroi’s distinctive 8+1 fingering system, it offers a warm, balanced tone for diatonic music-making at school, at home, and in group settings.
Made from solid maple and designed without a tone block, the Octa responds to gentle airflow and supports relaxed, natural breathing while playing.
Choosing the Right Fingering — Please Read Before Ordering
This flute listing is for Choroi Fingering, but it's also available in multiple fingering systems. Each supports a different musical approach:
-
Choroi Fingering (8+1) — Choroi’s own 9-hole system, with an additional little-finger hole that helps soften and balance the higher notes and makes them easier to intonate
-
German Fingering (7+1) — a straightforward 8-hole fingering system well suited to diatonic playing
-
Baroque Fingering — offers greater chromatic flexibility for music using sharps, flats, and a broader range of notes
👉 Please double-check the fingering system before purchasing.
If you are unsure which model is appropriate, we recommend confirming with your music instructor before ordering.
What Makes Choroi Fingering Different?
The Choroi Octa uses 9 finger holes (8+1) rather than the traditional 8-hole arrangement.
The additional little-finger hole allows the upper finger holes to be made smaller. This helps soften the naturally stronger high notes and makes them easier to intonate, creating a more balanced sound across the flute’s range.
Available Tunings & Models

- Right-Handed 432 Hz

A Note About Left-Handed Flutes: Because left-handed flutes are requested less frequently, we do not typically keep them in stock. Left-handed models are ordered from our Choroi distributor when purchased, so please allow additional time for your flute to arrive at our shop before we send it on to you.
Please Note: Wooden wind instruments are final sale for health and hygiene reasons. Please confirm tuning, fingering, and handedness before ordering.
For families choosing between tunings, we offer a short guide on tone and resonance:

Caring for a Wooden Flute
Regular oiling helps keep the wood nourished and protects it from drying, particularly during the first year of use.
Wooden Choroi flutes should be oiled only with Choroi flute oil or organic jojoba oil. Oils made for metal flutes are not appropriate for wooden instruments.
Basic care:
-
Oil the flute approximately 1–2 times per month
- Apply oil with a soft cotton cloth
- Swab the inside after each use with the included wooden and leather swab
- Store the flute in its cotton bag away from heat and extreme dryness
