Organic Merino Wool for Wet and Needle Felting

Filges Fairy Tale Wool is a long-fiber, combed organic wool from Germany, traditionally plant-dyed in a range of soft, natural colors. The aligned fibers work beautifully for needle felting, spinning, and detailed handwork, with the subtle variation and depth characteristic of plant-dyed wool.

Made from 100% kbT Bioland-certified organic merino wool, the batting is washed and hand-carded to preserve its softness and responsiveness. Its fine fibers felt smoothly and evenly with water, heat, and agitation, making it a reliable choice for wet-felted forms, backgrounds, layered work, and smooth transitions.

Naturally dyed with plants using food-safe mordants, the colors have the soft variation and depth characteristic of plant-dyed fibers.

Wet Felting and Needle Felting

Merino’s fine fibers and shorter staple length allow them to interlock efficiently during wet felting, creating strong, cohesive felt with predictable shrinkage. It works especially well for bowls, mats, vessels, slippers, backgrounds, and other projects where a smooth felted surface is important.

This single-color merino wool is ideal when you need a specific shade or larger quantity of one color. For a coordinated palette, our assorted Filges Organic Merino Felting Wool offers the same fiber preparation in multiple plant-dyed colors.

Notes on plant-dyed color

Plant dyes are inherently alive. Color may vary slightly from batch to batch due to season, harvest conditions, and plant origin — even when the same plant species is used and within the same batch. These colors coordinate beautifully with Filges plant-dyed yarns, though they are not exact matches. Natural plant dyes interact uniquely with different wool types and fiber preparations, resulting in organic variation that is expected and celebrated.

Safety Note:

⚠️ WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD - Small Parts. Keep away from children under 3 yrs.

Children who still put things in their mouth could bite off a small amount of wool and then either inhale or choke on the wool.
