Olwen Finds Her Wings

A Winter Picture Book About Becoming Oneself

A beautifully illustrated picture book that follows a young owl as she discovers her own quiet strength and place in the world.

In Olwen Finds Her Wings, a small owlet watches the forest around her with wide, wondering eyes. Other animals seem swift and certain, while Olwen is still finding her way. As winter settles over the snowy woodland, she begins to notice that everyone grows in their own time—and that her own abilities will emerge when she is ready.

A Story of Growth, Patience, and Individuality

Set among frosted branches, drifting snow, and soft winter light, the story unfolds at an unhurried pace. Arctic hares move across deep snow, owlets perch quietly in the trees, and the forest feels alive with stillness and possibility. Rather than pressing toward a lesson, the narrative allows space for reflection and recognition.

Written by Finnish author Nora Surojegin and illustrated in delicate plant-based watercolors by Pirkko-Liisa Surojegin, this book offers reassurance through image and story, affirming that each child’s way of becoming is uniquely their own.

Olwen Finds Her Wings is a comforting choice for shared reading, especially during quieter moments of the day or in the winter season.
