Honest History Magazine: The Swan King (Issue 1)

A Global History Magazine Exploring King Ludwig II and Neuschwanstein Castle

Honest History Magazine: The Swan King (Premiere Issue) is an upper-elementary history magazine that explores the life and legacy of King Ludwig II, the visionary ruler behind Neuschwanstein Castle in 19th-century Bavaria.

In this thoughtfully written issue, young historians journey into a world shaped by art, architecture, and imagination, while also examining the political tensions and financial realities that defined Ludwig’s reign.

Raised among forests, mountains, and medieval legends, Ludwig grew into a king influenced by opera, storytelling, and grand architectural vision. Yet his story extends beyond romantic imagery. It also reveals the complex relationship between creativity, leadership, and power.

This issue invites children to examine the real history behind one of Europe’s most recognizable monarchs—separating myth from fact while exploring how history remembers unconventional leaders.
