Stockmar Watercolor Paints – Waldorf Wet-on-Wet Primary Trio
The Foundational Waldorf Palette for Kindergarten, First Grade, and Beginning Painters of All Ages
Commonly introduced during Waldorf kindergarten and first-grade painting, this foundational trio also offers a beautifully simple starting palette for children, teens, and adults learning wet-on-wet watercolor painting.
Carmine Red, Lemon Yellow, and Ultramarine Blue provide everything needed to begin exploring color, movement, transparency, and blending. Rather than starting with a large assortment of ready-made colors, painters can first experience each primary color on its own and then observe the oranges, greens, violets, and shifting intermediate hues that emerge as the colors meet.
On damp watercolor paper, the concentrated pigments flow freely and blend with one another, encouraging direct observation and experimentation. The limited palette creates a clear and approachable beginning while still offering a remarkably broad range of color possibilities.
For Beginning Painters of All Ages
These three colors are frequently used in Waldorf early-childhood and first-grade painting lessons, but the set is not limited to a particular age or curriculum. It is equally suited to homeschool painting, classroom art, family creative time, adult beginners, and anyone wishing to work with a thoughtfully selected wet-on-wet primary palette.
Please note: This set includes three bottles of Stockmar watercolor paint only. Paint jars, wooden jar holder, brushes, paper, and other pictured accessories are shown for display and are sold separately.

Mix to Your Desired Color Strength
Because Stockmar watercolors are concentrated, they are not intended to be used straight from the bottle like ready-to-use liquid watercolor.
Stockmar recommends beginning with approximately 1 part paint to 2 parts water, then adjusting the mixture to suit your painting.
- Use less water for stronger, more saturated color
- Add more water for lighter, more transparent washes
- Mix only the amount you need for your painting session
A small amount of concentrated paint goes a long way.
