The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots by Beatrix Potter & Quentin Blake

A Rediscovered Beatrix Potter Tale with Lively Quentin Blake Illustrations

The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots is a rediscovered Beatrix Potter story, later brought to life with lively illustrations by Quentin Blake. Written by Potter in 1914 and left unpublished, this charming tale introduces Miss Kitty, a serious and well-behaved black cat who secretly leads a daring double life in her beautiful boots.

When Miss Kitty slips away for an evening hunt, she finds herself in a world of mischief, mistaken identities, and woodland villains—including the foxiest hunter of all, Mr. Tod. Along the way, readers will also enjoy a familiar appearance from Peter Rabbit, making this an especially delightful choice for families who already love Potter’s world.

A Fresh Illustration Style for an Hidden Gem Beatrix Potter Story

Because the story was never illustrated by Beatrix Potter herself, Quentin Blake was later commissioned by Frederick Warne to create the artwork for this edition. His colorful, expressive illustrations bring movement, humor, and a playful sense of adventure to the story while allowing Potter’s original voice to remain at the heart of the book.

This special edition also includes an audio CD with the story read by Helen Mirren, offering a lovely way for children to listen along or enjoy the tale during quiet time, travel, or read-aloud moments.

This little volume will especially appeal to readers who enjoy Beatrix Potter, curious animal tales, and picture books with a slightly more spirited and adventurous feel. It also makes an interesting addition for collectors and longtime Potter admirers who would enjoy discovering a lesser-known story from her literary legacy.
